Hi, it’s me Micael. I’m an experimental textile artist, sculptor, and mother in Kansas City. As an artist living in the late stages of a capitalist society that is failing because a few hoard resources and value materialism over living things, I feel it is my duty to document the beauty of the people, plants, and creatures living on Earth as well as the planet herself. My work centers on the emotional, scientifically proven quantum connection that we share with everything on the planet. I am interested in Catholic iconography, the mysticism of the Renaissance, and the lives and work of great women artists like Frida Kahlo, Remedios Varo, and Artemisia Gentileschi. After a childhood of Catholic Church and education, I am infatuated with ritual, symbolism, the macabre, opulence, and the erasure of many women of the Bible. I have spent years unlearning my indoctrination and discovering a new spirituality founded on honoring the divine feminine. My spiritual practice and my creative practice are one and the same. My work is ritual and connection, a catalyst to the divine. My practice is a devotion and dedication to the beauty of life, death, partnership, cooperation, and balance.
My life’s work is raising my three children to be empathetic, kind, justice seekers. We grow native plants, save worms and bees, feed stray animals, and make art together. All life is sacred, we are everything and nothing, we are everyone and no one. Our one life here on this planet should be used to love, accept, and support community in all its forms and everyone in them. Resistance is making art, planting wildflowers, growing food and sharing it, joining unions, meeting and supporting your neighbors, and loving everyone and everything for the unique miracle of existence they are. These acts are revolutionary but absolutely necessary in this US dystopian nightmare.
Together we persist.
